The artist, and the photographer

Adrian Gray, stonebalancing artistAdrian Gray has been stone balancing for many years, initially as a form of entertainment, later as a form of meditation, creativity and art. He has developed his talent to the extent where the incredulous onlooker must physically touch the balancing stones to ascertain what is holding them in place, usually upsetting the centre of gravity and collapsing the balance.

Adrian is a purist and chooses only those stones that are virginal - free from man-made chips or cuts. These are the first photographs of his work.

The Art

All of the stones in these pictures are balanced, strictly without the aid of adhesive, pins or computer manipulation. They remain in place through the natural force of gravity and friction. ‘Nature’s glue’ sustains them in these seemingly impossible positions and it is the capricious natural forces of wind or waves that returns them to obscurity amongst their fellow boulders.

Unless stated in the description on the gallery page, the photos are untouched. Visit the gallery or go directly to the photo store . You may also view a video of this extraordinary work.
